2010 Summer - High Performance & Mod Shop Academy

Does the smell of burning rubber and loud exhaust make you smile…then NTCC has the summer program for you. A racing and performance tech's dream... where you can study what you love to do, earn college credits and have fun.

Designed to prepare top students to transform stock vehicles into true high-performance machines Street and Track race cars with an emphasis on Restomods.

Restomods...Today car enthusiasts can have a classic muscle car with modern amenities…efficient drive train, the latest in power and handling, and a custom interior in a modern street rod that is a hassle-free pleasure to drive…the modern hotrod.

Even in today's economy, the performance market continues to experience phenomenal growth in all segments. This growth is especially strong in the Restomod segment, creating growth in work being performed by Mod Shops. These Mod Shops have immediate openings for well trained technicians with a strong background in high performance.

What to expect:

The Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program will be offering a High Performance Academy this summer at their state of the art facility. "Hands-on" and traditional class room training will be utilized to teach the skill sets required by Mod Shop owners. Several Mod Shop and Performance Specialty shops are members of our advisory board.

Project cars - Class sizes will be kept small allowing the use of student team project cars for hands on training. Teams will compete for top dyno measured HP and torque; and best overall attention to detail.

Lab training - Engine, transmission and differential training will be taught in live specialized labs.

Classroom training - Specialized racing theory of operation and design will be taught in the classroom using the current performance text books and articles.

High Performance Technician Certificate

What you'll learn:

The Automotive Mod Shop Technician Certificate Program covers the advanced skills required by today's Mod Shops. The first step is the completion of the Automotive High Performance Training Program.

Intense hands-on training includes:

  • Engine/Powertrain modification
    • Internal engine modifications
      • Cylinder head design - cylinder head porting and polishing: and flow bench testing
      • Camshaft design
    • Engine block enhancement and modifications
      • High Performance component installation and lubrication modifications
    • "Bolt-on" engine performance components
      • Super Charging systems
      • Turbo Charging systems
      • Exhaust systems
    • Transmission modifications
      • Enhancing automatic transmission shifting, transbrakes, air shifters and torque converters
      • Operation and servicing of manual racing transmissions and clutches
    • Differential modifications
      • Ring and pinion setup, quick change rear ends and traction aids
  • Performance Tuning
    • Chassis dyno run diagnosis
    • Programming of electronic engine management software
    • Nitrous Oxide Systems and racing fuel modifications
  • Body and Chassis Modificationn
    • Chassis dynamics for dirt, asphalt, road race, drag race and street performance vehicles
    • Chassis suspension construction and modification
  • Steering and Brake Modificationn
    • Steering dynamics construction and modification
    • High performance braking systems

Entrance Requirements:

Students must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Graduated from a NATEFF certified automotive program with above average grades
  • ASE Certified
  • Have 5 years industry experience in all area areas required by for ASE certification
  • All applicants must be interviewed by program director to be accepted into program.

Dates & Times:

2010 Acadamey will start Monday, May 19th and run Monday - Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM until Thursday, August 12th
